Vol. 1 No. 1 (2026): September presents an article that closely reflects the scope and distinctive focus of the Journal of Sharia and Local Traditions (JSLT). The article examines Adat Basandi Syara’, Syara’ Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK) within the dynamics of nagari legal politics, highlighting the meeting point between Islamic law, customary law, and local governance. Its contribution lies in explaining how Islamic values and adat norms interact within a changing political-legal framework, while formal recognition does not necessarily produce equal institutional authority for customary institutions.
