Focus and Scope

Journal of Sharia and Local Traditions (JSLT) is an international, double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary scholarship on Sharia, legal pluralism, customary law, and indigenous/local traditions. Unlike conventional Islamic law journals, JSLT examines how Islamic law interacts with living local traditions across diverse societies, providing a global forum for socio-legal, cultural, and comparative studies with particular attention to Southeast Asia and the Global South.

JSLT welcomes interdisciplinary contributions from Islamic studies, law, anthropology, sociology, history, political science, public policy, cultural studies, and related disciplines. The journal particularly encourages research from Southeast Asia and the Global South, while also embracing comparative perspectives from Muslim-majority and Muslim-minority societies worldwide.
